Why Choose Cage-Free Eggs?

Unlike hens raised in unethical battery cage operations, those raised in a cage-free environment are healthier, “happier” birds.  For this reason, they generally produce more nutritious eggs that are less likely to contain antibiotics.

Furthermore, choosing cage-free eggs is much more ethical from an animal welfare perspective since hens confined to cages are subjected to extremely inhumane conditions.  Unfortunately as many as 95% of all eggs come from caged hens, so it’s important that you choose your eggs wisely!

What do the Certifications Mean?

You’ll notice each of the farms listed on this page have a certification listed (PACS, BCARA etc.).  These certifications mean that the farm has met specific guidelines set out by the third party organization that has inspected their facility.

There are many different third-party certification organizations in Canada, and each have their own specific criteria that must be met in order to be certified.
